Mike Willis Ford Wants You to Meet the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid - Mike Willis Ford Blog

The Ford Maverick dropped in July last year, and has been accumulating accolades quickly. Journalists praise its price, utility, and versatility as an alternative to the superstar F-150 and the new-for-stateside Ranger. Like its larger siblings, the Maverick is available in several different configurations to suit various applications, but the one we at Mike Willis Ford are most excited about is the Hybrid variant. What makes the Ford Maverick Hybrid so special? Read on to find out.

2022 Ford Maverick Basics

The Maverick slots in under the Ranger as the smallest pickup in Ford’s current lineup. It shares a chassis with the Bronco Sport and Escape, and offers a stylish and affordable take on the small pickup formula. The Maverick is only available with four doors, meaning the bed had to be shrunk to only 4.5 feet. Though small for a pickup, Ford makes up for the lack of bed space with a versatile interior that can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate different loads or passengers. For example, the rear seats in the Maverick can be folded up leaving enough room for a full-size bicycle. Engine sizes range from the base naturally-aspirated 2.5 liter four cylinder to a more potent 2.0 liter turbocharged four pot, and you can get the Maverick in either front or all-wheel drive.

2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid

The Hybrid variant of the Maverick is powered by the base 2.5 liter Atkinson-cycle four cylinder engine along with two electric motors netting a total output of 191 horsepower. Towing and max load numbers are small for a pickup, 2,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs respectively, but more than adequate for the Maverick’s target demographic: young first-time Ford buyers that have never owned a truck and use their vehicle more for enjoyment than hauling. The magic of the Hybrid is two fold: first, as one would expect from a gas-electric hybrid vehicle, the fuel efficiency numbers are fantastic. The Maverick Hybrid touts an EPA estimated 32 mpg on the highway and 42 mpg in the city, due to the hybrid system being used more at lower speeds. Compared to the base Ford Ranger which averages 19 mpg city/highway, that’s a dramatic increase in fuel efficiency. The second part of the Hybrid magic is the price. The Hybrid is the Base model of the Maverick, meaning it’s the lowest price variant on offer, so the starting price is a bargain at $21,490. This makes it not only one of the cheapest pickups on sale, but one of the cheapest new vehicles on sale today.
