Order the New F-150 Lightning Through Mike Willis Ford!

The all-new Ford F-150 Lightning is starting to ship out to its new owners, and Mike Willis Ford can’t wait to tell you all about it. We’ve got the skinny on the Lightning, so if you’ve been wondering whether an electric truck is in your future, read on to find out why we think the Lightning is a true game-changer.

What is the F-150 Lightning?

The F-150 Lightning is the battery-powered electric variant of the stalwart Ford F-150. The F-150 has been the undisputed king of truck sales for over 45 years, and the Lightning aims to bring that record into the next generation with an electric vehicle that can do the same jobs as its gasoline-powered brother, and even a few that it can’t.

In place of a gasoline or diesel engine, the F-150 Lightning is motivated by two electric motors, one in the front and one in the rear, powered by a large onboard battery pack built into the floor of the truck, giving it full time four-wheel drive. These motors are much smaller and lighter than any of the available internal combustion engines, but their combined output makes the Lightning the fastest F-150 ever built. Ford states that when properly equipped, the Lightning can hit sixty miles per hour in just over four seconds. For comparison, that’s roughly the same as a C6 Corvette. This is one fast pickup!

F-150 Lightning Features

The Lightning comes in four trim levels: Pro, designed for commercial and contractor use, XLT, Lariat, and the decked out Platinum. There is currently only one body style on offer, a SuperCrew four door with a 5.5 foot bed, but additional variants are in the pipeline. The Standard Range battery pack offers an EPA estimated range of 230 miles and the Extended Range battery gets an EPA estimated 300 miles of range.

In many ways, the Lighting performs exactly the same as the internal combustion versions, just better. It’s faster, quieter, smoother, and more comfortable due to the whisper-quiet operation of the electric motors. The reduced number of moving parts means maintenance should be a cinch and the lack of an engine under the hood leaves room for what Ford dubs a “Mega Power Frunk”, a lockable storage space with room for two full golf bags or up to 400 lbs of gear. The Lightning can tow and haul with the best, offering over 2,000 lbs of load capacity in the aluminum alloy bed or up to 10,000 lbs in towing capacity when properly equipped.

What we’re most excited about are the new features only available on the Lightning. This truck can not only power itself, it can power all your devices, from a smartphone to a slow cooker. The interior, frunk and bed all contain 120v power outlets with enough capacity to charge other electric vehicles or even power your house in an emergency. That’s something you won’t find on any combustion vehicle on the market today.
