Maybe it’s being so close to Texas, but we do love our barbeque at Mike Willis Ford. Louisiana is known for its own take on barbeque and we happen to love both. Fortunately, you don’t have to cross the Texas border to find great smoked meats around Sulphur. Here are a few of our favorite BBQ joints around town. The Hut
You don’t have to go to Texas to visit The Hut, but you could. This locally-owned favorite has two locations, one right here in Sulphur and one next door in Orange. The Hut’s menu proudly features “BBQ and Bugs,” which locals know is an invitation to some fine crawfish. Their Texas-style BBQ is delicious and we always love visiting during crawfish season. The Hut serves them up by the pound, with corn and potatoes, just the way we like it.
Moms & Pops Bar B Que
Moms & Pops Bar B Que is one of our local favorites. How local is it? The menu is posted on a plaque on the side of the building. That just means great-tasting BBQ is made inside. It’s a great place to get some pork BBQ, but you have to arrive at the right time, which is Friday and Saturday. Any time of the week it’s a great place to grab a quality burger or shrimp po boy.
Jeanne’s Bourbon Street BBQ
Jeanne’s Bourbon Street BBQ is in nearby Westlake, but well worth the short drive out Napoleon Street, especially in a new Ford. The brisket is prepared with their own rub, giving it a deliciously unique flavor, and the pork ribs are some of the best we’ve had. Be sure to visit Saturday evenings for the smoked prime rib, it virtually melts in your mouth. Save room for dessert because the special bread pudding is topped off with a bourbon vanilla sauce, whipped cream, and pecans. It is the best way we know to end any meal.
